Chew Disco is a Liverpool-based club night showcasing emerging electro, dance-punk, riot grrrl, trash and alternative DIY bands, transgressive performance art, DJs (post-punk, queercore, electro, riot-grrrl, rockabilly), and projected cult, b-movie, and exploitation film mashups providing a mix of underground music, art, sexual/creative empowerment and political activism for queers, straights, homo-radicals, misfits, outcasts, feminists, alternative thinkers, anti-fascists… all in support of organisations working on behalf of women and LGBT enduring human rights violations in the non-West. Proceeds from Chew Disco #5 go to Icebreakers Uganda, an LGBT rights organisation supporting queers in Uganda – where homosexuality is currently punishable by incarceration for up to 14 years, LGBT citizens routinely face police brutality and torture during detainment, and where last year Ugandan MP David Bahati proposed the Uganda Anti-Homosexuality bill which would make homosexual behaviour punishable by death:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/8693560.stm
