By Fredrick Musis, Reporter Kamulali Newspaper, July 1, 2010Â
Uganda's major media houses are awash with news of a missing Anglican Priest. The Ultra- liberal Anglican Priest, Rev. Henry Kayizzi Nsubuga of Nansana Parish, Namirembe Diocese disappeared almost two and half weeks ago after delivering a scathing speech at St. Paul's Church, Kanyanya supporting Homosexuality in Uganda.
"Nansana is one place which is dominated by Conservatives and analysts believe that some of Kayizzi's comments did not go down well with the rogue youths in the area" said Mr. Musoke, the Village Chief of Nansana.
Namirembe Diocese has mounted a frantic search for the missing cleric and radio and newspaper announcements have filled the airwaves in the last two weeks in futile search for the missing Priest. 'whoever has information leading to the discovery of the cleric whose photograph appears above should report to Namirembe Diocesan Offices or to the nearest Police station' said the article in Newvision, in part.
The wife of the missing cleric, Harriet Kayizzi told new Vision, a daily newspaper earlier that her husband's disappearance had nothing to do with his sexuality as was rumoured by some quarters. 'He could have just been caught up in a wrong place at a wrong time'. Adding that, 'He left home to go to our upcountry home to rest, having been involved in a motor accident, which left him in much stress.-unfortunately he never returned' she quietly sobs.
A spokesperson of the Namirembe Diocese, Canon Nelson Kawesa when approached; said, ' the missing cleric will soon be found and there is no need to speculate'. When asked by our reporter whether his disappearance had anything to do with his open support for homosexuality in a predominantly conservative area, Kaweesa did not say anything.
"Police is reportedly not informed of the disappearance of Kayizzi and will only swing into action as soon as we get official communication from the Bishop of Namirembe," said one Police official who requested anonymity. 'We will not act on hearsay and cheap propaganda by some quarters' said one Police official who requested anonymity.
In a country like Uganda where conservative sentiments continue to hover around like a dark cloud against the background of the Anti-Homosexuality bill which is now entering its final stages of debate in Parliament, it remains to be seen whether the homosexual agenda as being rallied by the liberal American churches and organisations like Integrity USA will have its best chance.
